I think in any realm of art, people who are incredibly involved and pursue that art with a lot of passion eventually get “desensitized”. Musicians can easily figure out the chord progression and song structure just by hearing a few seconds of a song, photographers no longer feel any emotion at a picture of a sunset by the beach, fashion designers can only do so much with a three-piece suit, etc. This is where “art for artists” comes from. It’s the artistic equivalent of transexual midget porn, where you’ve just been exposed to so much that you need something absolutely insane to get you off. That’s why things like progressive noise-rock exist, or experimental photography, or crazy avant-garde fashion shows. I know it’s pretentious, but something like this wasn’t made for you. It was made to be the dancer/choreography/artistic equivalent of transexual midget porn, or those crazy fashion shows that showcase clothes no one in their right mind would wear in this dimension or any dimension similar to this one. Furthermore, I’d even venture to say that stuff like this is crucial to the evolution of art. Heavily experimental and “out-there” pieces are almost always reviled, laughed at, and shunned, but these pieces are eventually picked up by other artists and heavily diluted for mass appeal. “Shocking” things like this end up picking up steam and eventually the direction of artists end up shifting slightly towards that point.

There is no such thing as a person whose real self you like every particle of. This is why a world of liking is ultimately a lie. But there is such a thing as a person whose real self you love every particle of.
